You may not know Sodexo but there is a good chance you have experienced one of their services recently.  Whether its a hospital cafeteria, a campus cafe, or your company’s landscaping.  Sodexo is the company the provides food and facilities services with 350,000 employees worldwide.

Why do I care about them, you ask?  Because they are probably one of the most innovative companies when it comes to recruiting and social collaboration.  An inventory of what they are doing includes:

Additionally, the VP of Talent Acquisition @ Sodexo USA, Arie Ball, can be actively seen on Twitter (in addition to many on her team).  This is the same company that produces an annual Human Resource Report available to the public.  Kudo to Sodexo and everything you are doing!

Sodexo is also quite innovative on the succession planning front, under the leadership of Sandy Shaw, VP of Talent Development.

The company has nearly a decade of experience in succession planning best practices and process improvement. Starting with an inconsistent, paper-based process in 2000, Sodexo has effectively leveraged a process-oriented framework with supporting technology provided by Softscape to transform succession planning within the company. Through an iterative process, Sodexo has extended succession planning from the top 300 managers in the year 2000 to more than 7,500 in the year 2007, achieving a 97%+ completion rate for talent reviews in FY07. Sodexo continues to innovate its succession planning strategy, having recently added new competency assessment capabilities, risk assessment, and development planning enhancements.

Finding jobs through social platforms I think is only the beginning. We will see this process change and tweak as time moves forward.

I know several people who worked for Sodexo. Although they are supposedly very progressive and innovative, they treat their employees badly and have unrealistic goals and expectations. There is also a well established hierarchy in the company and the rules for senior management are quite different than they are for staff. They also had quite a high turnover until the recession hit.

Rather than buying into their spin, perhaps the Human Capitialist should have dug a little deeper to see how the company is run and who is really benefiting from all these “progressive changes.

Lately, I think Jason should rename the blog “Human Socialist”.

Hi Anne- Thanks for your comments. My post was solely focused on the innovative things Sodexo is doing in recruiting and wasn’t intended to digging into the culture or broader talent management practices.

Thanks Techsphinx…I was thinking more the “Social Capitalist”…

Check out http://www.daxko.com/job-openings — we recently added links to FB, youtube, twitter, & flickr! We haven’t thought about a career blog, so it’s great to see how it works for Sodexo.
