The Future of Outsourcing

I encourage you all to read last week’s article in BusinessWeek titled "The Future of Outsourcing".  Although I disagree with some of the minor facts, all in all, a good article.  I especially liked the "five offshore practices that pay off" (simply stated and effective).  Those include:

  • Go offshore for the right reasons
  • Choose your model carefully
  • Get your people on board
  • Be prepared to invest time and effort
  • Treat your partners as equals

Any company considering a BPO engagement must complete exhaustive due diligence basing decisions on facts not mandates, consistently communicate internally and externally, and, last but not least, sustain your "partnership" as an extension of your company.

    Jason:

Great article. I especially like the following quote: “But a more enlightened, strategic view of global sourcing is starting to emerge as managers get a better fix on its potential. The new buzzword is “transformational outsourcing.” ”

Part of what I talked about in today’s post on systematicHR was the difference between transitional and behavioral change. As the market begins to see more value in behavioral change as opposed to simply saving money through labor arbitrage, I think the strategic value of outsourcing will continue to grow.

Thanks for pointing out this article.

Outsourcing is really a good thing to consider for small or big companies since it transforms the whole industry and changes the way it works.
